Residential FAQ

I live in an HOA (Home Owner's Association). Will I be able to install a PV system on my home?
Absolutely! California Civil Code 2473, otherwise known as the Solar Rights Act, restricts HOAs and local governments from interfering with solar installations except for health and safety issues.

I see that the PV system increases my home's value. Won't that also increase my property taxes?
No. In order to promote the use of renewable energy, the State has exempted PV installations from increased property taxes.

What can a solar system power in my home?
The electricity generated by your system will be used to power any and all devices and appliances plugged into your home's electrical service. Solar systems are not designed to provide power for a single device, e.g. an air conditioner, but go to offset the total sum of your electricity usage.

If I move can I take my solar system?
Yes, you can take your solar electric system with you if you move but it’s best if you leave it on the original house because it increases the resale value of a home. Will you lose the warranty too?

How long can I reserve the rebate before installing the solar system?
In California, the California Energy Commission (CEC) provides you with a six-month window in which to install the system. For newly constructed homes, an 18-month reservation period is given. If you do not install the system within that time frame, the reserved CEC rebate money is simply kept by the CEC. There is no penalty from the CEC if you decide not to install.
